Problem
Esports players and organisations struggled with prize payouts: high KYC failure, chargebacks, and lack of trust. Goal: create a compliant multi-currency wallet tailored for the gaming economy.
Approach
Stakeholder workshops with compliance and payments.
Prototype testing with 15 esports players + 3 orgs.
Designed product brand alongside UX flows.
Decisions
Progressive KYC with live doc capture guidance and retries.
Escrowed payouts with transparent fees, FX rates, and status tracking.
Guardian controls for under-18 accounts with spend limits and approvals.
Result
Successfully regulated by the FCA in the Isle of Man.
Alpha launched across web and mobile.
Secured investor buy-in to scale product.
My contribution
0→1 design lead: product strategy, research, user flows, prototypes, visual design, and marketing collateral. Engineering built MVP, compliance/legal handled licensing.
Takeaways
Early compliance/legal involvement accelerates delivery, not slows it.
Testing with real gamers surfaced unique trust issues (e.g., fear of “frozen funds”) missed by generic personas.
